The lava enameller

is both a stonework specialist and a master of kiln-fired arts. Using traditional techniques, they apply enamel to the surface of lava stone. In this way, they create enamelled lava pieces — one-offs or series productions — for the fields of art craftsmanship, furniture, urban design and industry.

Lava enameller: training

IMAPEC, formerly the Volvic School of Architecture, was founded in 1820 by the Count of Chabrol de Volvic while he was Prefect of the Seine.

The profession of lava enameller requires highly specialised know-how and extensive expertise in the technique of lava enamelling. A lava enameller must master the preparation of lava stone, enamel mixing and kiln firing in order to guarantee the quality and durability of the finished pieces.
